Rules and Rota Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rules and Rota   Rules and Rota EmptyMon May 01, 2017 4:31 am

I have decided to allow stories to be polled when the writer win the previous month. I cannot see how a different story should be penalised in this way and it's clear there are no voting cartels on this board, so fairness isn't impacted.

Alright already! I suppose mine can be up for polling too. I just thought that because it's been around the block a few times that it was kind of cheating. You ladies may feel free to vote for it if you like though with all the other great stories showing up here this month, it's already going to be quite a race.

We all have stories we wrote a while ago. This is a new site and a new challenge and if it fits, it can be polled unless it was previously in a challenge on this site, in my opinion. This has been reiterated by a number of members so I think we still work to our member-led premise. If anyone has views on this just let me know and I'll poll it.

Well, I'd like to see your story polled too, SK. Maybe we should rethink the limit on length too. Seems a shame not to poll it. What do others think?

I do think we should have a length limit on monthly challenge stories, and when batting this around last year, the majority decided 4,000 words was a good number. That's part of the challenge. No disrespect to anyone, but if we are going to set a number, we need to abide by it. Otherwise, we could wind up with stories way too long to read in one reasonable sitting, and keeping up with reading and commenting could be more difficult, as it sometimes is already what with how busy most members get from time to time. We have no limits on numbers of stories that one person can submit and poll, and IMO that should stay in place as well. It's worked well thus far, and those writing know the limits we've set.

(Also just a suggestion this discussion be moved to another thread so it doesn't interfere with readers' enjoyment of the stories.)

Much as I appreciate your support, Javabee, I think the story challenge would become too onerous to read if people put in very long stories Sleep so I don't think it's fair to poll them (even if they are incredible, stupendous and fantastic.) Oops! Did I just say that out loud? Embarassed No, I won't just be changing the rules because it suits me. This site is member led and not one where the board owner does what suits on any given day. That way madness lies, and I do my best to keep the madness firmly contained in other threads.

Rules and Rota Empty
PostSubject: Rules and Rota   Rules and Rota EmptySun Sep 01, 2013 3:34 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have been asked to post a challenge thread and we have agreed that the prompt will be decided by the person rota'd each month.  To that end please email Admin and I will rota in the order received.

The stories are to be no more than 4,000 words long - a limit, not a target - and must relate to the prompt.  Stories in parts are permitted, but only one part per challenge month.  There is a minimum limit of 150 words.

The prompt can be anything: a mood, a word, a color, a piece of historical research - you name it, as long as it gets the plot bunnies out of hibernation and bouncing around this thread.

To prevent unwanted coding and formatting interfering with the board please do not post straight from any kind of document.

Please remember, when posting either type in your post/s, or, if you have a long post and want to copy and paste it--copy it to NotePad first, and then copy it from NotePad to here. Do not copy and paste from your Word Program.

NotePad is under accessories under Programs on Windows. Do not use Word Pad.

If you are using a Mac use TextEdit

Get typing!

Signed,

Your mysterious Admin Person
