PostSubject: Abseiling for charity   Thu May 05, 2016 6:39 pm

Hi,

Some of you already know from chat that I was toying with the idea of joining the Dundee Daredevil Abseil Challenge 2016.
Partly due to your supportive comments. I have now done so.   affraid

That means, in less than a month, on 04-June-2016 I'll be going over the edge!
Of the tallest building of the University of Dundee! At least, I think it is (the tallest). It's called "the tower", after all, and it's roof height is listed as 43m or 141feet.
Dangling from nothing but a rope, I'll hope to reach the ground safely, without making a "splatch".
Here are some tower pictures (spot the ones from past abseil challenges):
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=university+of+dundee+tower+building&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=643&site=webhp&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjYkvbW78PMAhVqKsAKHasmBjUQsAQISA#imgrc=_

And why am I doing this?
Because I didn't see the pictures before.
Because I thought it was a good idea. Conquering your fears, or so. Yes, I'm not too good with heights...
Because it was a challenge.
Because it's probably the only way for me to get a chance of doing abseiling.
Because it's a fundraiser event for a charity.

The charity in question is Marie Curie. They care for terminally ill people and their families. I think they do marvellous work that is (unfortunately) very much needed.

I hope I won't offend anyone by posting a link to my fundraiser page here. I asked at chat and I was encouraged to do so.

(I hope I did everything correctly and it works)

Please, don't feel pressured into donating. But if you want to, I'd really appreciate it. It's the first time I take part in such a personal challenge fundraiser event.
Just to avoid any negative surprises - if your local currency isn't £, you can donate in 9 currencies, including Euro and US Dollar. But your bank or credit card company might charge you something for it. Better check with them first, if you don't know.

Feel free to comment.

S3

Sounds like a wonderful cause S3. I love rappelling. Haven't gotten the chance to do it in a while though. It's used in caving quite often. Good luck!

Oh my goodness, time flies. The great day is almost upon me and I'm scared, scared, scared.
And still trying to raise money for Marie Curie.

A BIG thank you to all who have donated.

If some others still would like to, here's the link again:

Right. It's done. And it was terrifying and exhilarating. I think I'll do it again, next year!

This is the building: Not too bad, isn't it?

But the closer you get, the higher it grows! Honestly!

And then it was time to climb over the rail, get a few last instructions and then Go!

Yes, that's me.

The first few steps...

...then I think I got the hang of it...

... getting further down...

Almost there...

... just the last bit, avoiding the built out entrance...

... and then I'm back down again.

(Anyone notice the colour co-ordination between my earrings and the helmet?)

Wooohoo! I've done it!

And I have the certificate to prove it.
