Does anyone know if there is a way to EASILY change names etc., in an already written manuscript?  Using either Open Office or NotePad.  As in; push a button and every time a certain name shows up it'll get changed to another name.

In NotePad, it should be enough to use Ctrl+H (Replace) or the edit tab: click "Replace" and enter the original name and new name and click "Replace all". You might have to repeat in case there exist different versions of the name. And of course, there better not be anybody else of the first name in the manuscript...

I'm sure you know this, but just in case.
Be careful in case the names work differently with possessive thingies (sorry, grammar's not my strong point), e.g. if you want to change "Heyes" to "Smith", it might be a good idea to change all "Heyes' " to "Smith's", before changing "Heyes" to "Smith".
The same goes in case the names have different plural forms,...

This is similar to something I had to struggle with at work. How to search for certain entries in computerised data, and then make the computer understand which are the relevant entries you are really interested in...

Yes, I know Steph.  There are so many variables like Hannibal Heyes to Joshua Smith.  Kid versus The Kid.  Jones versus Curry or Kid Curry. etc.

It's not 100% but it is helping a lot.  Thanks for pointing it out.  I knew there was something on there that would enable me to do it but I just couldn't remember what it was.  You've saved me hours (dare I say weeks?) of work.
