Art is an output for creative energy, just like writing. And there are other outlets. For me it has been for a long time craftwork, more specifically beadwork (Native American style). So, I thought, I could maybe share some pictures of it here.
And no, I have not attempted to bead portraits, not even of my favourite ex-outlaw.

Inspired by Riders' mention of moccasin in the monthly challenge story, here is a picture of my moccasins:

They are fully beaded in the style of the Lakota

Wow, such detailed, fine work. How do you find the patience? Lovely, S3.

S3, what patience and attention to detail.  Truly lovely, and I am sure there is symbolism in different patterns and colours.

I am looking forward to seeing more.

Nicely done, S3!  I have friends who bead so know how time-consuming it can be.  But the finished product speaks for itself.  The moccasins are gorgeous and resemble some I've seen in museums.

Here is a picture of my leggins. They are Lakota style (major design mirrored along a central "line", a broad strip with a design related to but usually different from the major design runs up on the outside of the legging, the beadwork is bordered on the bottom by a green line (usually a light or apple green) and the beadwork including the green line are bordered at the top and bottom by one more row of beads (usually containing repeats of a simple design, like boxes or crosses)).
If I remember correctly they are about 10 years old by now, maybe a bit older.

Quite a while back I started working on a new powwow regalia. This time I did not use designs particular to a tribe, but my regalia will fit the category "Southern Traditional Women". Several dance styles are divided into "Southern" and "Northern" (very generally speaking);  "Southern" applies to (again very generally speaking) Oklahoma tribes, including tribes originally from the Eastern Woodlands (e.g. Cree, Choctaw, Cherokee), Prairie tribes (e.g. Ponca, Omaha), Plains tribes (e.g. Kiowa, Comanche, Southern Cheyenne) and "Northern" applies to tribes living further North who were not removed to "Indian Territory" (e.g. Lakota, Blackfeet, Northern Cheyenne).
Since tribes from so many different regions can be found in Oklahoma, it allowed me more freedom in my choice of design. Some tribes prefer floral designs, others geometric, still others use figurative designs.
I went with a floral design, which is very personal to me: oaks (represented by leaves and acorns). They are one of my favourite kind of trees, and they are the national trees of Germany and the UK (among other countries).

This is a picture of the beadwork for my hair ties, from which mink fur will hang down to about my knees.

And this will be my "belt set". Belt sets go back to certain tools women would carry in special containers on their belts, e.g. knife, awl, kit for fire-making. At modern powwows, the belt sets are mostly decorative and no longer functional. To me they are a clear sign showing how cultures evolve, with people deciding which traditions/aspects to keep, which to change or abandon.

They are still missing "drops" hanging down from the lower corners and ties for attaching to a belt.

Here is a picture of a traditional awl case in the style of Northern tribes, e.g. Lakota, with beaded drops and flap.

P.S. The awl inside has come in handy quite often, especially when making moccasins. Very Happy

Thank you! Since taking these pictures I have beaded 3 medallions for a necklace, almost completed my crown and started on pieces for the drop (to "counterbalance" the medallions). I guess I need to get the camera out again some day.

Thank you Keays! For a long time quill- and beadwork was (were?) my outlet for creativity

Wow, thank you all for the compliments. sunny

If any of you would like to try your hand - I can give you tips.
Very Happy

I wish I was a good enough beadworker to make money from it, but I am nowhere near fast enough to make it worthwhile. lol

Truly beautiful pieces S3!  I love the vibrancy of the colour and the intricacy  of your beadwork shows a real eye for detail and precision.  You must be a very patient person to create these beautiful pieces.

Thank you for sharing them with us.
