Thank for the lovely comment.

I think my default setting is 'silly'.

That last cartoon is hilarious Nancy and I think your very talented and love your sense of "silly" humour. Did you ever try your hand at comic book pictures (like my avatar)?
I think the one without a name is my favorite....
Thanks for posting them!

These are really nice Nancy.  I love it when someone can just let loose and come up with a wonderful piece of artwork.  Sometimes I get too caught up in realism!

Hi Niekx

Thanks for the comments, I love the nameless one too, and because of the techniques I used it changes 'mood' throughout the day.

As you can see, I work in all sorts of disciplines, and have tried comic book styled, but it sadly was not my forte, unless it was really basic line drawings.

Still, I am always experiment with my art, so perhaps I will crack it some day.

I suppose I work in different mediums too, just not the same ones as you.  I love working in pencil and pastel but don't mind charcoal once in a while either.  I also want to get backing doing 3 dimensional with clay.  Right now though, I'm so busy with writing etc., I haven't had much time to draw.  I'll get back to it though.

Hi Keays

I envy you, I have tried sculpture, and just never can crack it.  I guess my brain is just too 2d!

I also love seeing pastel work, but find I am just too messy to master it (I have tried many times).

You have such a precise eye, as your animal portraiture shows that I bet your pastel work is gentle on the eye, but evocative of mood.

I wish I could find the dog I did in pastel.  It's one of my best I think.  I'll have to take another look.  I know it's on this computer somewhere!!

Wow, you are very talented, NW,  and in so many mediums, too.  You have a wide range of styles and skills.  Color me impressed (pun intended--groan)!

Wow, Nancy, you work in so many different mediums! Is the Blue Ewes piece a watercoloring? It's lovely!

Hi JB, yes the Blue Ewes is a watercolour.  Mainly a wash.

The trick with washes is to 'stretch' the paper properly.  Anyone can try it, and it looks really effective, and what can start as one thing ends up as another.

I would recommend anyone to try their hand a painting, drawing, charcoaling.  Everyone had paper and pens, all you are wasting is time.  Try lots of techniques and see where it takes you.

Also, a good frame goes a long, long way.....

Sometimes my best pieces are the more abstract, as in the name-less piece.  However it is great fun when you have a picture in mind for someone and watching it develop.

I will be posting another few pieces later in the week.

This is just a tranquil watercolour.  The Windmill was from a sketch taken of a still-working windmill in Norfolk, but the scene and landscaping just happened as the picture developed.

Nice and calm, and I really like the colours that worked their way into the picture.

This is another case of me always taking a sketch book with me.  I saw this wonderful doorway and window, and not too far from home either!  But the light was right, I was in the mood and just had to catch it on paper.

The worst thing about painting or drawing outside is Joe-public....  Still, this was worth lots of people peering over my shoulder!

Material-wise, all this took was some paper and a cheap biro pen.

This one has special memories for me, as it is painted from a small natural harbour in Northumberland England, a truly beautiful, historical, emotive and spiritual part of the country.

If ever I win a lottery (unlikely as I don't do it), I would live up there in a flash, and just paint and cook.

Ok, now for some silly ones again..

In case you can't read the writing underneath, it reads

"He's not much to look at ~ but boy, can he KISS!"

I love this, it still makes me giggle.  It is quite wordy.  But stick with it, this is my sense of humour in a nutshell...

Imagine the vicar swaying and slurring.... well you get the picture.  It reads..

"They said, 'You'll never succeed in that parish.'  They said, 'You'll never make an impression on those tight lipped bunch of puritans.'  They said 'You'll never find the key to the wine cupboard.'  Well, two out of three ain't bad!"

Hi everyone

This is one I gave to my sister for her birthday last year.  The 'Coconut Dogs' is a Scottish in-joke, and our Gran had scottie dogs, so it seemed appropriate.

I tried carving them out of coconut shell, but was in danger of losing a finger or six (even using my decent jig-saw!).

So I pressed, wove and lacquered coconut husk and made them out that, it gives a great 3-D effect and I think they look really cute.... but then, I am biased  coconut
