End of day four.  Typical of the learning curve, the day I'm feeling the most frustrated is the day when Mari says I've improved in leaps and bounds, and have made the most progress.  I donno.  Last day tomorrow.  We'll see what I end up with.

Very impressive, Keays. It's great to follow your progress. The amount of detail in the last picture is amazing. I can see bone structure, muscle layers and sinews/ligaments in the legs. You definitely have learned a lot!
I can't imagine working in three dimensions; two are difficult enough for me. ;-)
I always assmed that all sculpting would be done sort of the same way - working your way towards the inside from a large block or lump. I'm totally fascinated that this process is completely the other way around; building up, layer by layer from the inside out.
You really are a multi-talented artist!

Day five.  Getting animation into the figure now.  Spending today refining.

Done for the day.  Still looking stiff to me, amateurish.  But for a first attempt it's not too bad.  Last official day today, but will spend a couple of hours in the morning, tweaking it.

I think it's absolutely astounding for your first try.  I know you being hard on yourself leads to excellence though, but just take the admiration.   applause

Well done, Keays! I think it's great work. Especially for a first sculpture. The animation made it come to life. You've done a really good job on working out teh details, play of muscles, bone structure,... And the added mane and tail have changed the appearance to make the horse an indvidual.

Thank you ladies.  I'll probably post a couple from today, though the changes will be minuscule, I'm sure.

So much for minuscule changes.  Hind leg was bother me so we cut and shortened both of them.  Mari felt that the head was too long, so we cut the nose off and shortened that.  Didn't have time to repair and refine, but I'll get back to it when I get home next week.

The hind legs do look better and the head is more proportional. (I might not have noticed without you pointing it out, but comparing before and now...).
You've done a great job, Keays! It definitely looks more professional than some I have seen for sale.
Hope you had a good time and have a safe journey home!

Wonderful work, Keays. So life like, I can see the movement in the piece.

I am highly impressed. I think being able to bring life to clay is amazing and you have done a phenomenal job here.

Some of you have already seen this, but for those of you who haven't, here is my most recent pastel sketch of my horse, Monty.

You impress me once again, Keays. He looks fabulous. I love how you captured the play of light and shadows on his face. And the eyes seem really lifelike.
You really are a great artist.

How did you get him to hold the pose long enough for you to sketch him? ;-)

W-o-w. These are amazing!

I agree with Steph. I thought the first ones looked great. But comparing the first clay figure with the latter ones, I do see the differences. Your first time? Really? It's absolutely breathtaking.

The pastel is gorgeous. It so lifelike! The eyes are really looking at me!

And the pencil drawing...goll-ee. No wonder people stopped to stare. It's him!
